Campaigns & Commitments: Collective Impact

To date, nearly two dozen colleges and universities, spanning over 50 campuses in 13 states from Hawaii to Vermont, have made commitments to 100 percent renewable energy or electricity. More than 800,000 students in the U.S. attend a college or university that is committed to achieving a renewable future.

And campuses across the country are doing much more than setting ambitious goals. In fact, more than 40 colleges and universities already obtain 100 percent or more of their electricity from renewable energy sources. In addition to driving meaningful reductions in climate and air pollution, those schools are also leading by example for their larger communities and states.

Right now, we are working with students at over a dozen campuses from coast to coast to encourage their schools to take action for 100 percent renewable energy. If we secure new commitments to 100 percent renewable energy or electricity at each of those campuses, we would bring the total number of students attending colleges and universities committed to 100 percent renewable up to well over one million.
